Rambler Records Signs John Davis
|
Rambler Records, an imprint of Brentwood-based independent label group, BHT
Entertainment, announces the signing of acclaimed former Superdrag frontman,
John Davis.
As the singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist for Superdrag, the
renowned power-pop band hailing from Knoxville, TN, Davis will release his first
solo recording this fall on Rambler Records and become the second artist to bow
from BHT. Co-founding and heading Superdrag for over 10 years, his British-band
influences garnered a considerable fan base in addition to MTV video airplay and
two performances on Late Night with Conan O’Brien. The band further gained
significant exposure as the Davis-written “Sucked Out,” a single from their
debut album, Regretfully Yours, became a Top 20 Modern Rock hit.
“John’s music gave us the courage to create Rambler Records and to sign him
first,” says BHT Entertainment co-owner, Steve Thomas. “Artists like him come
along so rarely that he makes everyone around him strive for a higher level of
excellence. I’m honored to know him and to be associated with his
recordings.”
After years of mainstream success and leading the noxious life of the
stereotypical rocker, Davis experienced a powerful, unexpected conversion and
re-embraced his rural Tennessee, church-going roots. He left Superdrag and moved
to Nashville where he began working with respected producer, R.S. Field (Billy
Joe Shaver, John Mayall, Buddy Guy), whom also shared a fondness for British
Invasion bands. Davis’ work with Field led to playing on Allison Moorer’s highly
applauded album, The Duel, and then an invite to tour with the country-rock
star.
As the spotlight brightens on Moorer’s career, Davis’ will additionally be
highlighted this evening as he performs with her on The Tonight Show with Jay
Leno. Visit www.nbc.com for local
