Drop The World

Sometimes I sit and stare at a blank piece of paper for hours praying for a song to appear. I begin to make promises like, “God, if you’ll just give me one more song, I’ll never watch ‘Oprah’ again.” Those are the kind of promises easy for me to fulfill (I loathe Oprah’s show.); I wouldn’t want to be the one who did not honor his side of the bargain.
 
And then there are times when there is no need to strike a deal with deity. I grab a pen, open up my notebook and it’s almost like the song was already there. I just traced the letters, filled in the blanks and made it easier to see.
 
“Drop The World” is a song I wrote in about the same amount of time it takes me to sing it.
 
My latest record (Worth Fighting For) is about things that are worth fighting for. “Drop The World” is a prayer for the person that is fighting, but the battle hasn’t turned out the way he/she hoped it would. We all know someone who fits that description. Someone who is bearing more heartache than any one person should. No matter how hard they try, it seems they are fighting a losing battle.
 
When I was a kid, I sang a song that says, “He’s got the whole world in His hands.” In “Drop The World,” I am praying for God to drop everything else and run to the rescue of this one broken, hurting person. To hold them, comfort them, bring some peace to the battle they are in the middle of and show them that they are not alone in the fight.
 
Truthfully, the song is just a reminder of what Christ has already done. He dropped everything and ran from heaven to earth for us. Emmanuel. God With Us. He saw something in us WORTH FIGHTING FOR.
 
Romans 8:31-39 (The Message): So, what do you think? With God on our side like this, how can we lose? If God didn't hesitate to put everything on the line for us, embracing our condition and exposing Himself to the worst by sending his own Son, is there anything else He wouldn't gladly and freely do for us? And who would dare tangle with God by messing with one of God's chosen? Who would dare even to point a finger? The One who died for us — who was raised to life for us! — is in the presence of God at this very moment sticking up for us. Do you think anyone is going to be able to drive a wedge between us and Christ's love for us? There is no way! Not trouble, not hard times, not hatred, not hunger, not homelessness, not bullying threats, not backstabbing, not even the worst sins listed in Scripture:  They kill us in cold blood because they hate you. We're sitting ducks; they pick us off one by one. None of this fazes us because Jesus loves us. I'm absolutely convinced that nothing—nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable—absolutely nothing can get between us and God's love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us.
